Golf isn’t just for fathers, businessmen and retirees. You may not see many women or kids playing golf, but Summit County’s golf courses have summer programs to encourage kids and women to learn the game.
Summit County is home to five golf courses: Breckenridge, Copper Creek, Keystone Ranch, The River Course at Keystone and the Raven at Three Peaks in Silverthorne.
The Breckenridge Golf Course is situated in a quiet valley just north of town. The municipal golf course offers junior programs for kids 5- to 13-years-old, discounted punch cards for Summit County juniors, family nights for residents and ladies-only sessions.
More than 9,700 feet above sea level, Copper Creek Golf Course is known as the highest championship golf course in the country. Copper offers youth lessons, children’s club rentals and youth rates on season passes for kids 5 to 18. Mothers are invited to participate in one of the ladies leagues. Want to get out as a family? Try the discounted twilight nine-hole round.
One of the top courses in the country, the Raven is kicking off its season with the family-friendly Bluegrass and Greens event on Memorial Day, but that’s not all. There are also weeklong junior clinics for kids and Ladies Nine & Wine for women who want to learn the game, play a few holes and sample wine afterwards. Families are encouraged to come play nine holes after 4 p.m.
Keystone is home to two golf courses: Keystone Ranch and The River Course. Juniors play free in the evenings with a paying adult. The Keystone Ranch will offer free hour-long junior clinics June 4 -8th and weekly junior clinics throughout the summer. Saturdays are Ladies Day at The River Course.
You never know: Learn golf and you might even get to spend more time with dad. (Sorry, Dad!)
