Movies

My favorite Aspen movie venue, the old Isis cinema house, was modernized back in the late 1990’s. Until then, it was owned and operated by a local mom and pop couple for over 30 years. The original Isis was a classic movie theatre with plush vintage seats and delicious, fresh-made popcorn. I especially loved to hear the great interpretations given by Dominick before starting each film reel.

While going to the movies today is much different, theaters in the Roaring Fork Valley are offering up a great selection of top notch viewing spots.

Crystal Theater – Carbondale

Located on the 400 block of Main Street, the Crystal Theater has quite an eclectic history. The building has hosted a mercantile, bank, and was even used for potato storage during the depression. It wasn’t until the 1940’s that it was transitioned into a live theater. In the 1980’s, a local couple renovated the theater, and the big screen here has entertained patrons with movies of all kinds ever since. Absolutely try the fresh made, seasoned popcorn.
